When I first learned to play contract bridge in fifth grade, I saw it as just a card game. Little did I know, it would become so much more.
What truly captivated me was the opportunity to engage with a diverse group of players, primarily older adults with rich life experiences. Every game brought new stories, laughter, and invaluable lessons, reminding me that wisdom doesn’t age—it evolves.
Through my experiences at the bridge table, I’ve learned the importance of patience, cooperation, and the power of conversation. Each round taught me about resilience, as I faced opponents who were not just skilled players but also incredible mentors. Their insights extended beyond the game, providing me with perspectives that shaped my views on life and community.
Choosing to learn contract bridge was about more than just mastering a game; it was about embracing the chance to connect, learn, and grow through the friendships I’ve formed along the way.
